This is one of the many Richard Weston strizzatte images using a technique originated by Renaissance painters, which we have edited to create a new image.
It has been created by squeezing (that's what strizzatte means in Italian) acrylic paints between glass sheets, then scanning them at high resolution, so that what you are seeing is a tiny section of mixed paints.
But it’s only now visible to the human eye thanks to Richard Weston's dedication, and a leading edge Nikon microscope and camera specially adapted for this use.
Art, nature and technology: it’s what we’re all about.
