Liberty Mica Schist

Another painting by nature complete with van Gogh style brush strokes, and an abstract treatment.

Liberty, though, sold it successfully in their Scarf Hall, not art department.

Mankind has been using mica for over 40,000 years initially to make cave paintings, and has since been used by Ancient Egyptian, Greek and Aztec civilizations.

More surprisingly perhaps, you have eaten and used it, and may even have worn it as it is today used in paints and fillers, to add shimmer or ‘frost’ to food, and is widely used in cosmetics for the same reason.

In its pre-ground natural state, a single crystal (one was found in Ontario) can be 10 metres across and weigh 330 tonnes, but the fragments we use are rather smaller, and are carefully curated under microscope when their wonderful patterns and colours become visible.

Wonderful and beautiful they most definitely are.
