Paul Klee (1879-1940, usually pronounced Clay) was a hard working 'natural genius', who experimented in different art styles including Bauhaus (where he taught art), expressionism and surrealism.
Here we have an artwork dating to 1922 in his Cubist style where he is experimenting with segmenting the human head, and this has then been 'mineralised' with a Weston mineral image - so the background is Weston, and the illustrative foreground Klee.
We believe that it makes for a beautiful and wholly original image that combines the art of Nature and the art of man, or Klee anyway.
