A rare agate from Madagascar, but it looks more like an image from an alien planet.
Stunningly original as a work of art, and a real talking point just as it was as a scarf exclusively in Liberty.
Agate is a colourful variety of quartz, and other quartz varieties include amethyst, opal, onyx, jasper, and Tiger’s Eye.
It was named after the river Achates by Theophrastus, a Greek philosopher and naturalist. It is associated with volcanic rocks, and has variations including Mexican, dendritic, rainbow or banded agate - and, here, rare Madagascan agate.
