This is Australian Munjina Stone found exclusively in the Chichester range of hills 800 miles north of Perth, and was laid down about 2,700 million years ago originally as mud - yes, mud.
All Munjina Stone has this reddy colour, and a banded yet fluid structure making it, we think, one of the most beautiful lesser known minerals.
Rare and precious indeed.
And absolutely beautiful as a scarf in silk.
