Yes, agate is formed by volcanic action, so you can understand the flowing, lava-like lines, but how on earth - at this microscopic level - can it have such detail, and so many colour variations in a tiny fragment less than a centimetre across (probably much less)?
Fortunately, for all of us that is yet another minor miracle of nature, but only digital microscopes can get down to this level of detail.
So, this is a lava rainbow that human eyes have never set on before.
