This is a high resolution scan of an actual piece of Stonehenge chipped off by the great Victorian mineralogist, Matthew Forster Heddle (not allowed today, surprisingly).
It was sourced from the archive of the British Geological Survey, and the image was created using advanced technology by the Open University.
It was produced at the request of the English Heritage, and is being used to produce silk scarves which are proving very popular at the Stonehenge Visitor Centre.
