Everyone knows Vincent suffered from depression, so it's surprising that so many of his paintings are dominated by bright, sunshine, summer time yellows, and none more so than this simple, yet so evocative, painting of harvest ready fields, and a farmer trudging home through that sweltering Provençal summer heat.
The red flowers, the dark greens of the trees and the pale blue of the sky make for a colourful palette on a scarf when it is being worn. You can be sure many people will say 'I love your scarf, but what's the design?' All the better when you can reply 'I'm wearing a Van Gogh'. The painting dates to 1888, and he died 2 years later (1853-1890).The image frame is a Weston Bloodstone.
Weston is renowned as one of the world's most creative scarf designers, often using natural sources to produce beautiful scarves sold in luxury stores worldwide, but offered here at a very significant discount on the retail price. The image has been made available courtesy of the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC.
