This looks like soft fabric rather than the crystal structure it actually is. The crystal itself was tinged yellow, but the intensity of the colour is a result of the scanner 'seeing' the transmitted light reflected and refracted within the crystal.
Pure calcite crystallises in the form of a perfect rhomboid, a six-sided solid object in which the opposite sides are parallel, and has perfect cleavage in three directions.
