Do you see the mysterious spiky features as desert plants growing amongst dunes? It's somewhat out of perspective, but has a primitive power to it - or at least we think so.
Actually, it shows all the classic quartz features: perimeter and horizontal banding framing a small area of quartz. The brown formations with their radiating spikes are probably the result of silica replacing an inclusion of another mineral.
