Crystal Mountains
A wondrous honeycomb of golden mountains deeply cut with caves, and calcite is, in fact, the principal mineral involved in cave formations, which assume highly exotic shapes thanks to the ease with which it is dissolved by water. Indeed, those qualities are echoed in miniature in this image.
Calcite constitutes about 4% by weight of the Earth's crust, and is formed in many different geological environments. As a result, it is found in many different forms and colours - in this casefrom a large crystalline block. |
