Snow And Ice
This is not snow and ice, but quartz - the most abundant material in the earth's continental crust. In ideal conditions it forms a perfectly clear six-sided prism, and is commonly found in veins in rocks formed by hot water.
This exquisitely delicate array of inclusions and small fracture planes floats in an optically-clear quartz tip. Although it appears to be a moment of flux captured by a high-speed shutter, these evanescent formations have most likely been almost unchanged for millennia. |
