A stunningly dramatic image that appears to be lit from inside the mountains, doesn't it? Perhaps the landscape of an undiscovered planet that has transparent mountains, but, actually, it was formed deep inside our own planet.
As the agate was being formed at a huge temperature, a hole appeared which was filled by a combination of molten quartz and silica. The sample is actually 5cm in diameter.
