Fire On The Mountain
The bright, rainbow-like "flames" contrast dramatically with the whiteness of the background. This may make you think of a fire on a mountain, but it was certainly formed at huge temperatures inside the earth.
It is an image of pure crystallised calcite that actually measures 1cm across, and a version of it appeared on the 'Sketchbook' page of 'The Architects' Journal', attributed to 'The Pencil of Nature'. |
