Beach At Dawn
It's certainly a deserted beach with rolling waves, but is the sun rising or setting?
'Sea and sky' images are frequently evoked by level-banded agate. Most agates form in pockets in volcanic rocks such as basalt, crystallising from a silica gel in concentric bands. When there is insufficient material to fill a void, a secondary infusion of silica forms level bands under the influence of gravity.
Sorry the explanation isn't as romantic as the image! But, as ever, it is amazing that such a "watery" image can be produced by such a "firey" process. |
